George Lyke's young grandchildren usually have breakfast and lunch at school, as participants in the free and reduced-price meals program. But for the first time in recent memory, Clark County schools are closed this summer, so they, like elementary-school children across the valley, are forced to find alternatives.

55% of children in the Clark County School District are enrolled in free and reduced-price meal programs based on their family income. That’s over 170,000 kids facing hunger at home and coming to school unprepared to learn.
