Executive Chef J.L. Carrera moved to the United States from Guatemala in 1985 and began honing his skills in the kitchen at a seafood restaurant in Malibu before starting his career with Market City Caffe Hospitality Group two years later. The chef at the time observed Carrera’s potential and trained him in every kitchen position, recommending Carrera as executive chef for the Pasadena outlet of Market City Caffe.
After successful openings of Market City Caffe restaurants in Burbank, Beverly Hills, Brea and the Monte Carlo in Las Vegas, he headed back to Southern California to open Rose City Diner and Market City Caffe in Arcadia. He then took the helms of Morels French Steakhouse & Bistro at The Grove Los Angeles before opening the concept in The Palazzo in 2008, where he remains the Executive Chef.
Carrera lives with his wife and two children.
