Making a Difference During Challenging Times

I remind myself daily how fortunate I am to work with amazing people who bring positivity and hope to our community. Our volunteers are incredible, and they go above and beyond to help in any way that they can. Whether it is waking up early to help at a drive-thru distribution or delivering groceries, our volunteers bring a unique energy and sense of excitement to every volunteer activity.

One November morning, I received a phone call from a woman inquiring about our offsite volunteer sessions. After I explained our drive-thru distribution model, the caller mentioned that she was once in need of food assistance and went to shelters to get groceries for her family. Although she was not in need of help, she wanted to give back to others who might be struggling. Her main reason for wanting to volunteer was to provide comfort and a sense of hope for our neighbors in need. She always wears a smile, gives compliments and brings a positive attitude.

This is just one example of a volunteer who goes the extra mile to help members of our community. She exemplifies one of my favorite quotes: “Be the change you want to see in the world.” I often ask myself how I can be a positive light in the world, and I always look to our volunteers for strength as their contribution makes a positive impact. I leave you with one question: how are you going to make a difference?
