LAS VEGAS, Nov. 1, 2022 – Three Square Food Bank’s annual Holiday Match Challenge has returned for its 13th year. Thanks to the campaign’s matching sponsors, Three Square can double the impact of donations made through the end of the year, providing more meals to Southern Nevadans struggling with hunger.
Backing the 2022 Holiday Match Challenge are local businesses and community leaders, including Boyd Gaming Corporation, Nevada Gold Mines operated by Barrick, Bentley Las Vegas, Gene Haas Foundation and Intermountain Healthcare.
The 2022 Feeding America Map the Meal Gap study revealed that food insecurity in Southern Nevada remains above pre-pandemic levels. More than 341,000 residents, or one in seven, don’t have reliable access to enough nutritious food. This includes more than 130,000 children, or one in four.
“Southern Nevada continues to recover from the pandemic’s explosive impact on food insecurity, but the reality is that 15% of people living in Clark, Lincoln, Nye and Esmeralda counties will not be able to secure enough food for themselves or their families this year,” said Michelle Beck, Three Square interim president and CEO. “Food is a basic and life-sustaining human need, and the Holiday Match Challenge allows us to provide more of it to those who need it most.”
The holiday season isn’t always joyful for those who are food insecure. That’s why Three Square provides holiday meals to families in need, in addition to community meal programs for seniors across the valley. For more information on ways to get help, call 702-765-4030 or visit www.threesquare.org.
