A Couple that Gives Together, Makes a Difference Together

Date: Monday, July 31, 2017

Chris Faber and Tony Doyle are members of Three Square's Giving Society and have been supporters of Three Square's mission since 2011. Over the course of six years, the couple has contributed the equivalent of more than 60,000 meals! We interviewed Chris and Tony to learn more about their passion to give back to the community.

Tell us how you found out about Three Square?

Chris: About five years ago, my Democratic Club volunteered at Three Square for their BackPack for Kids program and I participated.

Both of you are longtime donors of the food bank. Why do you support Three Square's mission?

Chris: In this blessed country we live in, it is disgraceful that anyone should go hungry. Three Square does a magnificent job of acquiring food from various sources and providing healthy food to those in need.

Tony: I always felt there was plenty of food to go around but the challenge was the distribution of the food. Three Square solved that issue by distributing to their agency partners and other charities that I did not know about but are legitimate.

What ways do you give back to the community through Three Square?

Chris: Various organizations that assist veterans, students, and the homeless are helped by Three Square. I enjoy coming down with friends and participating in the meals that will be distributed to those in need. I always make sure that I donate during times when there are matching funds available to maximize the benefit to Three Square.

What advice would you share with others who want to give back to their community but are unsure of where to begin?

Chris: Three Square makes it easy to be a volunteer. Whenever you have available time, you can visit their website and sign up to become a volunteer to view all the opportunities where help is needed. You can come down to Three Square alone and join in, or you can come with friends. Everyone at the food bank is very welcoming and makes you feel right at home.

Tony: Donate to Three Square and visit their facility, it is top-notch.

Is there anything else that you would like to share?

Chris: Before I became aware of Three Square, I donated to several local charities because I wanted to help the homeless, our vets and our first responders. When I was given a tour of Three Square, Kate Hibbard, development officer, told us that Three Square provides food to these groups and many, many more. I was impressed with the cleanliness in all the warehouses and the enthusiasm expressed by everyone I came in contact with at Three Square. It was wonderful to see the dedication and the joy everyone there had. I knew that this was an organization that was making a huge difference in the lives of Nevadans and I wanted to be a part of it.
