The Culinary Community Takes a Bite out of Hunger

Date: Tuesday, February 7, 2017

Las Vegas is known for its amazing variety of restaurants, and world-class culinary professionals who offer a diverse dining experience. Although Las Vegas is one of the top culinary destinations in the world, we must acknowledge the more than 296,000 food insecure people who live here. They don't always know where their next meal is coming from, and that is a real problem.

Amongst many other community partners, Three Square works closely with the culinary community to fight hunger in Southern Nevada. Last month, we invited our culinary friends to visit the food bank for an impactful volunteer session and a delicious luncheon. We know the importance of staying connected to our community partners, so we thought it was the perfect opportunity to get reacquainted.

Nearly 30 culinary professionals from around the valley arrived to Three Square eager to make a difference. Attendees included chefs, general managers and food and beverage directors, along with members from Three Square's very own Culinary Council. Culinary Council Chair and restaurateur, Elizabeth Blau also stopped by to join in on the fun.

Despite the cool temperatures in the warehouse, the group wasted no time participating in two very necessary volunteer activities. They packed more than 400 shelf-stable meals for children, and nearly 200 bags of grocery product for families in need. Volunteers are the oxygen at Three Square, and we simply can't power our mission without these dedicated individuals.

After their hard volunteer work, our special guests worked up quite the appetite for a well-deserved lunch. Three Square's very own Executive Chef, John Hilton, and his kitchen staff prepared rib eye steak sandwiches, and house-made potato chips. Complete with vegetarian options and homemade desserts. Our guests also enjoyed and took home herb butter made by our executive chef, with herbs right from Three Square's community garden.

Fun Fact: Three Square has the unique ability to offer first-rate event hosting opportunities for events of any kind. We have a variety of delicious menu options and unique spaces to pick from to best meet your event needs. Check out the link for more details.

The event concluded with remarks from Three Square, CEO and President, Brian Burton who expressed his gratitude for the culinary community. He also had the honors of introducing Culinary Council Chair, Elizabeth Blau, who stressed the importance of Three Square's mission. She also invited everyone to lend their talents to support Three Square as we pursue a hunger-free community. Whether it be involvement with Las Vegas Restaurant Week, catering for events, or dedicating time, it truly makes an impact.

We are grateful that Las Vegas is home to so many talented culinary professionals. We enjoyed their company at Three Square, and proud to have hosted such a successful first event of the year. We are certainly anxious to see what 2017 will cook up for us.
